What you get in writing before we load
Texas rules set out what a mover must hand you before loading. Check for each of these.
| Document | What it has to show |
|---|---|
| Written proposal (§218.56) | The maximum price, binding or not-to-exceed, when and how payment is due, and the mover’s liability for your goods, if any |
| Rights brochure (§218.55) | “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move in Texas”, given with the proposal |
| Items added before loading | Added items can change the price, in writing, before the truck is loaded |
| Payment at delivery (§218.57(b)) | Pay the maximum price on the contract and the mover must release your goods |
What sets your price: how much is going, the access at each end, the crew size, and anything added before loading. Get a free estimate and ask how time is counted before you sign.

Questions about the process
Do I get the price in writing before you load?
Yes. Texas requires a written proposal before loading. It shows the maximum price, says whether it is binding or not-to-exceed, states when and how payment is due, and states the mover’s liability for your goods, if any (43 TAC §218.56).
Can the price change after I get the proposal?
It can if items or services are added before loading. The final price depends on how much is going, the access at each end (stairs, elevators, the distance from the door to the truck), the crew size and anything added. Tell us everything that is moving when you call, so the proposal covers it.
Can a mover hold my things until I pay more?
Not if you pay the maximum price on your contract. Under Texas rules, once you pay that amount, the mover must release your goods (43 TAC §218.57(b)).
What is the Texas rights brochure?
“Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move in Texas” is a TxDMV brochure. Movers must give it to you with the proposal (43 TAC §218.55), and you can read it online before move day.
How long do I have to file a damage claim?
Texas rules give you 90 days to file a claim with the mover. The mover then has 23 days to acknowledge it and 90 days to resolve it (43 TAC §218.61).
