What you get in writing before we load

Texas rules set out what a mover must hand you before loading. Check for each of these.

Questions about the process

Yes. Texas requires a written proposal before loading. It shows the maximum price, says whether it is binding or not-to-exceed, states when and how payment is due, and states the mover’s liability for your goods, if any (43 TAC §218.56).

It can if items or services are added before loading. The final price depends on how much is going, the access at each end (stairs, elevators, the distance from the door to the truck), the crew size and anything added. Tell us everything that is moving when you call, so the proposal covers it.

Not if you pay the maximum price on your contract. Under Texas rules, once you pay that amount, the mover must release your goods (43 TAC §218.57(b)).

“Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move in Texas” is a TxDMV brochure. Movers must give it to you with the proposal (43 TAC §218.55), and you can read it online before move day.

Texas rules give you 90 days to file a claim with the mover. The mover then has 23 days to acknowledge it and 90 days to resolve it (43 TAC §218.61).
